We know you are all aware of the extreme poverty both in our country and in developing countries. We have always wanted to do something on a larger and broader scale to make a difference in the lives of those who are much less fortunate than we are. We had an idea and called it 'Paddling Against Poverty'. We thought about taking another wilderness expedition, but this time using it to help others. Our aim is to have people sponsor us on our expedition with all monies raised going to Canadian Feed The Children.
Canadian Feed The Children is a non-profit charitable organisation working in developing countries such as Ghana, Ethiopia, Bolivia, Haiti, Uganda, Philippines, Sierra Leone and even in parts of Canada. This charitable organisation is 100% Canadian, is not affiliated with any particular religious group, and in the last Annual Report, 89% of the money donated went to the programs in these countries, with only 11% going to administration costs. This is a far higher amount of money actually going into the programs than in many charitable organisations.
The programs involve both aid and sustainable development. We are very interested in sustainable development programs as they help people to become independent. Emergency and direct aid is sometimes also required. For further information about their programs, check their website Canadian Feed The Children.
In September 2005 we spent six unforgettable days canoeing in the Temagami wilderness. In the background is Maple Mountain. We hiked to the summit during that trip.
